Alumna Stephanie Hernandez Shares Her Story

My name is Stephanie Hernandez and I am a junior at Mercy and proud alumna of Sts. Peter and Paul. While in high school, I am involved in several activities, including Student Ambassadors, track and field, and now I’ve had the opportunity to open up a club that focuses on helping the Hispanic community.

For a few years, I attended Assumption, and then I started fifth grade at Sts. Peter and Paul. I was blessed with so many opportunities while I was attending. For me, Sts. Peter and Paul was a place where I could grow in my faith and expand my learning. Now my sister, who is fifth grade, has attended since kindergarten, and I have seen her grow into a faith-filled learner. For my family and I, having this opportunity has been a huge blessing and one will not take for granted.

It is so wonderful to see Sts. Peter and Paul thriving and great to see so many of my classmates continue their Catholic education at one of the Catholic high schools in Omaha. Sts. Peter and Paul is such an important institution for the South Omaha community and I am proud to be an example of the progress the school has made in the past few years. After I graduate from Mercy, I plan to attend college and study to become a dentist.

I understand what a sacrifice it is for my parents and family to send us to Catholic schools. I am grateful to attend schools where I not only learn the skills that I need for the future and make lifelong friendships, but I also have the privilege of growing in my faith and attending Mass as a community. Thank you for supporting the Consortium and its efforts to grow enrollment for Catholic education in Omaha.

We are so grateful to Stephanie for joining us at a recent event and speak to a group of Consortium supporters. We  hope you join us in praying for her continued success in the future. It is stories like these that make us proud to be part of the Archdiocese of Omaha Catholic Schools.
